Samuel John Cardinal
(November 14, 1924 - June 19, 2009)

Samuel John Cardinal passed away at his home at St. James Place on Thursday, June 18, 2009. He was 84 years old. A Baton Rouge resident for the last 28 years, he was born in Plaquemine to the late Nunzy and Josephine Cardinal. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Known as a successful Baton Rouge business owner of Cardinal Paint and Decorator Center, he worked in the paint and decorating business until his retirement. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Norma Martin Cardinal. He will be forever remembered as a devoted husband, father and friend to daughter, Sharon Cardinal; friend, Kathy Lovett; son, Marty Cardinal; and daughter-in-law, Connie Cardinal. Also survived by two grandchildren, Blake Cardinal and Raechel Cardinal; nieces, Vicki Dauzart, Pam Cardinal, Kathy McCoy; and nephew, Ross Zito. He was preceded in death by brothers Anthony "Boy" and Salvador "Bay" Cardinal; and sisters, Anna Mae Zito and Rose Lee Sabella. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Friday June 26, at 3 p.m., preceded by visitation hours from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Inurnment will be in Grace Memorial Mausoleum on Saturday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. We, the family of Samuel Cardinal, want to express our sincere thanks to everyone for their compassionate thoughts, prayers and acts of unselfish kindness that have brought solace to our grieving hearts.
