HATFIELD, GERTIE JANE BYRD – 95, died January 6, 2002. Born in the Montgomery community, July 31, 1906, she was preceded in death by her parents, Pryor and Eva Chambers Byrd; her husband, Bedford Hatfield; five brothers: Luther, Ancil, Elmer, Roy, and Argil Byrd; and sister Olive Byrd. She was the oldest member of Antioch Baptist Church and attended New Haven Baptist Church since moving to Oneida. She is survived by two daughters: Rella Burchfield and husband, Rankin, and Patsy Boshears and husband, Paul, both of Oneida; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one brother, Harry Byrd of Jacksboro; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted January 8, 2002, in the chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Smith, Rev. Gene Bond, and Rev. Asbury Byrd officiating. Music was provided by the New Haven Singers and Nick Manis. Graveside service was to have been conducted January 9 in Carson Memorial Park. (Source: Independent Herald, 10 Jan 2002
