John R. "JR" Hodzinski, age 81, of 2323 Carmen Ave., Sheboygan, died on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, at St. Nicholas Hospital.
He was born in Manitowoc on June 11, 1925, a son of the late Walter and Mary Kortas Hodzinski. He attended Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, graduating in 1943. John also received a degree in electronic technology from DeVry Institute. John was a U.S. Army Air Corp. Veteran, serving his country from 1943 to 1946. On Oct. 29, 1949, John was united in marriage to the former Sylvia Schmidt at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Manitowoc.
John worked as an electronic service technician for Pluskat TV for 27 years; O & W Communications for 10 years; and after retiring, he worked at Woodlake Market for 13 years. He was a life-long member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, Communion distributor for the homebound, and an usher at St. Peter Claver. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, world traveling, and was an avid baseball fan.
John is survived by his wife: Sylvia, of Sheboygan; sons: John Hodzinski, of Sheboygan; Michael Hodzinski, of Newton; Thomas Hodzinski, of Sheboygan; daughters: Barbara (Jack) Leonhardt, of Sheboygan; Laura (Lyn) Nudd, of Sun Prairie; grandchildren; great-grandchildren. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives. John was preceded in death by his sister: Lucille Hein; and by his brothers: Victor, Chester and Edwin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, with Rev. Richard Cerpich officiating and Deacon Michael Burch, parish director, assisting.
Family and friends may call at the church, S. 11th St., Sheboygan, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.
