Lurah Ellen Bice was born on 26 September 1910 in Alto, Texas, to Gilbert Bird Bice and Salana Ardelia Schochler. She married a professional fisherman, Noral "Red" Smith, 11 April 1934, in Honey Island, Texas. When Red retired, he and Lurah moved to Cherokee County, Texas. Lurah Bice Smith died, 21 March 1996, aged 85, in Alto, Texas, and was buried with her husband at Lynches Chapel Cemetery.
