Ernest attended University of Richmond where he - like Vaughan - was a brother of the Virginia Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon (SigEp) Fraternity. Ernest was a member of the Class of 1931. In JAN 1943, he began U.S. Marine Corps Officer Candidate School at Parris Island, SC. Serving as a Marine Corps officer during WWII, and retired as a Captain, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve in APR 1955.
Ernest worked with the Veterans Administration & as personnel director of Henrico County before going to work as the programming officer in the policy and programs office of the directorate for quality control at Bellwood in SEP 1960.
