PVT WILLIAM M.J.Drury served the Southern Cause as an Infantryman, and then as a Cavalryman during the American Civil War. He enlisted on August 5, 1861 and was a member of Co B., (Atkinson's) Georgia 26th Infantry Regiment. On May 10, 1862, PVT Drury was mustered out. Then, on May 21,1862 he enlisted in Co. C., Georgia 4th Cavalry (Clinch's).

William survived the war and raised a family, farming in Georgia. On July 30, 1867, William signed the Federal Oath of Allegiance, and registered to vote.
