Nancy Apperson Liady, 96, died Monday, June 22, 2009, in Roanoke, Virginia.

She was born to John William and Annie James Apperson in Yancey Mills, Virginia, on November 8, 1912.

She is survived by a son, Fred Liady and his wife, Dee, of Roanoke, Virginia; a daughter, Anne Lynch and her husband, Bob, of Phoenix, Arizona; five granddaughters, Betsy Lynch Roeder and her husband, Scott, of Phoenix, Arizona, Caroline Lynch of Alexandria, Virginia, Stephanie Lynch of Richmond, Virginia, Melinda Schneider and Todd Setchel of Boones Mill, Virginia, Kimberly Schneider and John Parmigiano of Gainesville, Florida; one grandson, Chris Schneider of Gainesville, Florida; one great-granddaughter, Teagan Mae Roeder of Phoenix, Arizona; and her sister, Phyllis Maphis of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Fred "Bud" Liady; her brother, Jack Apperson of Crozet, Virginia; and her sister, Ellen Buchanan of Toledo, Ohio.

Nancy was a graduate of Greenwood High School where she received the Paul McIntire award upon graduation in 1929 for the outstanding female graduate in Albemarle County. She attended William and Mary and graduated from the University of Virginia in 1933 with a degree in Education. She taught in Albemarle County schools for five years after graduating. She was a member and Past Chapter Regent of the Albemarle Chapter, NSDAR and served on the Albemarle County Planning Commission.

Nancy's intellect, sharp wit and penchant for story-telling have been enjoyed by family and friends all of her long life. She will be missed.
