FORMER PORTLAND MAN DIES IN FLORIDA
Death of Daniel E. Arnold due to infirmities of old age - Civil War Veteran
Daniel E. Arnold died at his home in St. Petersburg, Fla., Aug 26, of disease due to old age. The funeral was held from his late home Wednesday, Aug. 27. The G.A.R. had charge of the services. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
Mr. Arnold is survived by his widow and four children. Walter G. of Sistersville, W.Va., Charles G. of Spokane, Wash., Kilburn S. of Brooklyn and Mrs. Lillian H. Napper, who lived with her parents. He had eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Arnold was born in the town of Portland, Chautauqua County in 1840, on the farm owned by his father on Westfield town line and Main road, now owned by Mr. Bell. Most os his life was spent in Portland and Westfield. He lived 20 years in Corry, Pa., but returned to Portalnd to make his home. In 1902, he first went to Florida because of poor health.
He served two years in the Civil War, a member of Co. G, 72nd N.Y. Infantry. Was wounded at the Battle of Williamsburg.
