Ray J. Haupt was the eldest son of Ralph Edward Haupt and his wife Estella (Pensyl) Haupt. Ralph Edward Haupt would move his young family from Shamokin, Northumberland Co., PA to Salem City, Salem Co., NJ about 1942. By the mid 1950's, all would reside in Pennsville Twp., Salem Co., NJ.

Ralph's brother Fred Aren Haupt and Fred's family would also migrate to Salem Co., NJ and settle in Carney's Point, NJ. Ralph Haupt's mother Rebecca (Erdman) Haupt would also migrate and reside with Fred's family. Fred Haupt's children would also later settle in Pennsville Twp., Salem Co., NJ.

Ray J. Haupt would serve in the Korean Conflict in the Central Intelligence Headquarters. After his service, He would marry, Molly Elizabeth (Everhart) Elmore in 1956. She was the widow of Carroll Elmore who died in 1955. He would adopt her young son Steven Bruce Elmore (b. 1954) as Haupt. Two other sons would follow. They were Ray (1957) and Mark Edward (1962).

Toward the end of his life, Ray J. Haupt would migrate to Winston-Salem, NC to be near his two sons Ray and Mark who had earlier migrated to North Carolina.
