BANGOR - Hazel E. Lawrence, 87, died Nov. 3, 2003, at a Brewer health care center after a long illness. She was born Aug. 9, 1916, in Detroit, the daughter of Tracy O. and Rosalin F. (Ready) Norris. Hazel was educated in Dixmont schools and raised her family in Dixmont, Troy and Carmel.
She worked at local restaurants, was a dorm mother at Husson College and was a chef at the University of Maine, Orono, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Hazel had recently been residing in Levant with her granddaughter, Joline Rossignol and her husband, David and their children, Brandon and Michael.
She is survived by one son, Lloyd Stevens of Brooks; two daughters, Lila Davis of Bangor and Joline Thompson of Holden; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three husbands, three sons, two daughters, two grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters.
Hazel's family wishes to thank the wonderful staff from Alpha One for their care allowing her to be at home.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at the Hermon Baptist Church, Route 2, Hermon with the Rev. Cleo Winningham, officiating. Burial will be at Dixmont Corner Cemetery, Dixmont.
