Hastings resident, Warren Lincoln Rice, passed away June 27, 2009 at The Homestead, Hastings, Nebraska. Warren was born August 28, 1907 in Harvard, Nebraska to Ernest "E.J.A." & Myrtice (Mygatt) Rice. He graduated from Long Pine High School and attended Hastings College and graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a degree in Animal Husbandry.

Warren served in the army from April 29, 1943 – July 16, 1943. On June 8, 1929 he married Burdetta Simmons in Hastings, Nebraska. Burdetta passed away February 27, 1997. Mr. Rice was a self employed farmer from 1929 – 1935. In 1935 he was a charter employee of the Soil Conservation Service where he stayed for 13 years. He was the manager of the Neligh Lumber and Grain Company for seven years. He was the technician for the Water Resources District for 13 years and manager of the 32 Mile Creek Water Shed Project for five years. In 1972 he became the manager of Little Blue Natural Resource District where he retired in 1978. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Lions Club in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a former mayor and commander of the American Legion in Neligh, Nebraska. He was an avid Nebraska football fan and loved gardening especially growing flowers.

Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Edna JoAnn Shaver, 2 brothers, Meredith and Albert Rice, grandson, Roger Rice and great grandson Warren Rice.
