William P. Hamm, 82, of Sykesville, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born March 10, 1927, in Affinity, Raleigh County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Walter A. and Sela May Hale Hamm. He was the husband of Margaret M. Hamm.
He was an Army veteran, having served as a private during World War II in Germany.
He had been a car hauler for many years. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 557. He enjoyed horse racing, stock car racing, NASCAR and boxing. He had raced dirt track in his younger years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law William "Jackie" and Loretta Hamm, of Stewartstown, Pa., Danny Hamm, of Finksburg, and Glenn and Shannon Hamm, of Glenville, Pa.; a sister, Eidna "June" Bartrum, of Rock Creek, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Haight Funeral Home & Chapel, 6416 Sykesville Road, Sykesville.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park.
