Edmund C. Rhodes, 86, a retired stockman, dairyman and farmer and a resident of Fort Scott for 53 years, died Burke Street Hospital. He had been in serious condition for nine days.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mildred Graham of Ponca City, Oklahome, four grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. There are four sisters, Mrs. Bertha Roberts, of this city; Mrs. Rose Penny of Valley Falls, Kansas; Mrs. Nell Schroer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Grace Liggett of Hot Springs, Arkansas. Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.
One of the eleven children of Beachum and Sarepta Johnson Rhodes, Ed was born at Clinton, Indiana January 1, 1865. At the age of 12 he moved with his parents to Woodson County, Kansas, where they homesteaded a farm. Later he moved to Allen and Bourbon counties and came to this city 53 years ago. He was twice married. "Ed" as he was known to his many friends moved to Fort Scott after retiring from the farm and operated a feed store at 520 East Wall where he also bought and sold livestock.
Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kansas.
