Norman "Newt" Alexander, passed away at Warren General Hospital, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, January 26, 2008.Norman was born in Espyville, Pa., on March 5, 1919 to Glenn and Bessie Freeman Alexander.
On August 20, 1940, he married Vivian Davis, the girl
next door, and his love for her remained until his death.
Newt proudly served in the Pacific Theater during World
War II, where he flew 35 combat missions as a gunner in a B-29 with the U.S. Air Force, 9th Bomb Group.
Upon returning, he worked at Dan's Chevrolet in Albion,
Pa. In 1951, he moved to War-ren, Pa., and was co-owner and manager of Dan's Chevrolet in Warren until 1973.
In the mid-1950's, he owned the "Eight-Ball" racing
car and with friend, Emory Mahan enjoyed many weekends at Stateline Speedway and area race tracks.Newt loved doing home improvement projects, gardening, barbecuing for family and friends and working outside in his yard. After retiring in 1976, he managed City Ice from 1980 to 1996. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with family and being a proud great-grandpa to Christopher Lindell.He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Bes-sie; wife, Vivian in 1994; his daughter, Sandy Zerbe in 1999, brothers, Wally, Stanley and Bob Alexander; and sister, Lois McConegly.He is survived by his daughter, Tish Harriman and her life partner, Burt Alexander;granddaughter, Jennifer Lindell and her husband,
Troy, and son, Christopher; grandson, Jake Zerbe; granddaughter, Lacie Zerbe; son-in-law, Art Zerbe; former
son-in-law and friend, Ernie Seber; step-grandchildren,
Jeannine Benson, Justin Harriman and their families; as well as loving nieces and nephews.
