Joy Fowler Clayton, 77, died January 9 at her home in Portageville. Born August 28, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Ruby Fowler Stephan and Samuel Chester Stephan.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired dietitician. Preceding her in death were one daughter, Carol L. Underwood on August 13, 1964, and one great-grandson, Jonathan Bradley Ledbetter on December 28, 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Michael S. Clayton and wife Linda of Hayti, and William C. Clayton and wife Margaret of Wardell, two daughters Shell Fisher and husband Jake of Portageville and Diane Hensley of Wardell: two brothers, Samuel Chester Stephan and wife Dottie of Houston, Tex., and David Stephan and wife Martis of Truman, Ark.; nine grandchildren, Kris Underwood and wife Donna, Tiffany Ledbetter and husband Brad, Stephanie White and husband Rick, Tara Moody and husband Mark, Kim Hensley, Matthew Clayton, Danny Hensley, Tracey L. Clayton and Stacey L. Young and husband Shawn; six great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Clay, Kelli and Kara Underwood, Clayton Ledbetter and Amanda Moody, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Jan. 11 at the First Baptist Church in Portageville with the Rev. Mark Inman and the Rev. Kris Underwood officiating.
Burial was in the Portageville Cemetery.
