John A. Barrett
John Abner BARRETT, 82, 117 E. Seventh St., died Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. at Woodlawn hospital. He had been in ill health six years, being seriously ill the past nine weeks.
Mr. Barrett had a long career as a hotel operator both here and elsewhere. This included operation of the Barrett hotel in Rochester, also known before and after as the Arlington hotel; the White City Amusement Park on the north shore of Lake Manitou; the Puritan hotel in Indianapolis, and the Blue Skies hotel in Miami Beach, Fla. He also was associated with his father, Abner BARRETT, in operation of the Barrett Lumber company in this city.
Born Oct. 28, 1898, in Kokomo, he was the son of Abner J. and Rosetta McINTYRE CHESTNUT BARRETT and had lived in Rochester most of his life. His marriage was Sept. 17, 1922, in Fort Wayne to Grace Ysobel TRUE, who survives. Mr. Barrett was a 39-year member of the Eagles lodge.
Surviving besides the wife, are one daughter, Mrs. Larry (Peggy Lou) YANKOWITZ, Palm Pines, Miami, Fla.; six grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Myron (Charlotte) ARGENBRIGHT, Rochester; and two nephews, Steve MOORE, Sarasota, Fla., and Bill ZARING, Monon.
Rites will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Zimmerman Brothers funeral Home with the Rev. Sam CARLTON officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.
