Though tombstone says Peter died in Dec-1894, he actually died in Dec-1893, as shown by several newspaper articles, including the following:

Brownstown (Indiana) Banner, Thursday, 28-Dec-1893:

MURDER AGAIN

The red handed assassin broke loose in Brownstown again, Saturday night, and at the hour these lines are penned, the victim lies cold in death, while one of the cowardly murderers cowers behind the bars.
Inasmuch as Christmas was approaching a few of the hoodlum element begun to prepare for their usual celebration on Saturday night by "teaing up" until three or more were uproarously drunk. Among those who were in the fighting humor were Peter Boling, Thornton Jarvis, Jr., and George Jeans; what the point of difference was, we will not attempt to say, but certainly the two latter turned on the former, and the reports have it that Jarvis used a knife, cutting Boland fearfully about the abdoman in both sides and in the arm, while Jeans administered two or three brutal kicks in the abdoman and stomach. They first came to blows in Herrmann's saloon, from which place they were forciably ejected, one out of the front door and one out of the rear. They came together again on the street, when the marshal separated them and ordered them to go home. The next place where they came together according to Boland's story of the affair was near Falk's ice house, and there the cutting and kicking was done. The next place Boland was seen was in front of Herrmann's saloon where he showed his cuts and he finally got down never to arise again in front of Wacker's store. Owing to the inability to get a physician here he was taken to Ewing in a wagon, but the pauper doctor, Wilson, was called out and none but old Dr. Reed could be obtained. The wounds were dressed and he was hauled to his home where he laid about 68 hours before death came to his relief at about 9 o'clock, Tuesday night.
The Coroner is now holding an inquest in 'Squire Lawell's office.

Thornton Jarvis was later convicted of the murder and sentenced to seven years. He was paroled on 28 Feb 1899.

Peter Newton Boling was the youngest son of James Luke Boling and Sarah Huckleberry. He was born in Washington Co., Gibson township, Indiana. He married Parthena Weeks on 5 March 1870. They were the parents of Minnie E. Boling. Parthena died in 1887 and Peter remarried to Adeline G. Dobson 14 Jun 1888. Peter & Adeline were the parents of Charles Martin Boling and Mary Catherine Boling.
