Mr. Alek was born Jan. 10, 1927 in Salem, Ohio, son of the late Teodor and Anna (Tiomirovic) Alek. He had been employed as a bus driver for the Chautauqua County Transit System in Jamestown. Previously he had been employed at Litton Industries and General Motors. He was a 1945 graduate of Salem High School and graduated from General Motors Technical Institute in Flint, Mich. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include a son, Todd Alek of Buffalo, N.Y.; two daughters, Karen Miller of Arlington, Va., and Traci Alek of Fullerton, Calif; two sisters, Helen Graybeal and Mildred Burger, both of Salem; a brother, Milan Alek of Salem; a stepson, Tom Niehus of Thompson; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Alek, on April 26, 1960; two brothers, Michael and George Alek; and three sisters, Anna, Mary Ann, and Dorothy Jean Alek.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stark Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Sassanell of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A memorial service also will be held Friday morning at the Lind Funeral Home, 805 West 3rd Street, Jamestown, N.Y.
