Mrs. Clara Etta EVANS, 84, Argos, was among 12 Indiana persons to meet death on the highways during the past weekend. The dozen fatalities nearly matched the heavy count of some weekends during the bloody September.
Mrs. Evans died in a hospital shortly after a car driven by Carl C. BLUE, 22, Rockville, hit an auto in which she was riding at the intersection of Indiana avenue and South Michigan street in South Bend at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said Blue went trough a red light and indicated he would be charged. Five persons were injured in the accident.
Mrs. Evans resided with her daughter, Mrs. Don NELSON, on R.R. 2, Argos. She was born Aug. 9, 1874, in New Holland, O., the daughter of Henry and Mary ARNOLD. She came to Indiana in 1907 and had lived in Fulton county several years. Her marriage was on Feb. 21, 1895, in Circleville, O., to James Wesley EVANS, who died Nov. 8, 1939.
Surviving are the daughter, Mrs. Frances NELSON; one son, Wilby G. EVANS, Rochester; nine grandsons; sixteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer ARNOLD, Menominee, Wis. One sister preceded her in death.
Rites will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. CST in the Grossman funeral home at Argos with the Rev. Paul HALBERT officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Rochester. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. CST today.

IN SOUTH BEND SUNDAY NIGHT
An Argos woman was killed and five others injured in a three-car accident at 5:30p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Indiana avenue and South Michigan street in South Bend.
Mrs. Clara Etta Evans, 84, R.R. 2, Argos, was thrown from a car driven by Albert Hassan of 1718 Caroline street, South Bend. She died at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial hospital, South Bend, of injuries which included a skull fracture and other internal injuries.
South Bend police said that the Hassan car was struck by a car driven by Carl Calcin Blau of 409 N. Jefferson street, Rockville, when he apparently ran a red light.The Hassen car struck the third car involved which was driven by Mrs. Doris Blue of 2205 S. Brookville street, South Bend.
Blau will appear in South Bend City Court next Monday on charges of involuntary manslaughter, and disregarding a traffic signal. He appeared in court this morning but the case was continued. Four of the other five injured, also passengers in the Hassen car, were Mrs. Catherine Hassen of the same address and the driver, Albert Hassan, Paul Biernacki, 6, and Bonnie L. Biernacki, 4 1/2 both of 1426 E. Thorin street, South Bend, and Doris Blue driver of the third car were admitted to Memorial and St. Joseph hospitals.
Mrs. Evans was born Aug. 9, 1874 at New Holland, Ohio to Henry and Mary Arnold and came to Indiana in 1907. She lived in South Bend from Nov 2- 1942 with her daughter, Mrs. Don Nelson, R.R. 2, Argos, 12 years ago. Her husband, James Wesley Evans whom she married Feb. 21, 1895, at Circleville, Ohio, passed away in 1939. Mrs. Evans was a retired school teacher and a member of Argos Congregational Christian church.
Besides the daughter she is survived by one son, Wilby G. of Rochester: nine grandsons: 16 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Elmer of Menominee, Wis. One sister preceded her in death.
Friends may call after 8 p.m. today at the Grossman Funeral Home, Argos, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. DST Wednesday. Rev Paul H. Albert pastor of the church of which she was a member, will officiate and interment will be in the Rochester IOOF cemetery.
