In a July 2001 phone interview by Renee’ La Viness, Mary’s son Herb Chase said that his mother was born on June 4th, 1905 in Shirloboch, Germany. (This is different than her obituary says, but there was great conflict in those days and maps have changed much. Perhaps Germany was the official location at the time of her birth?) He also gave the following information: “Mary Koladzi and her mother, Jozefa, came to America on the vessel S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam, arriving in NY on 28 Apr 1913. Her surname was changed to College after she came to America. Mary College was naturalized about 1940.”
