Eugene Ahrendt, 71, of Tacoma, died March 20, 1999.

Following graduation from Pacific Lutheran University, he spent 32 years in the Franklin Pierce District as music teacher, high school administrator and past president of the Franklin Pierce Education Association. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Korean War and retired as Lieutenant Colonel after being in the Reserves for 20 years. Gene enjoyed classical music and played violin and viola for many years in the Tacoma Symphony and Pacific Lutheran University Orchestra. He was an active member and past president of Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland. He enjoyed tennis, traveling, and the many close associations with friends and colleagues.

He is survived by wife LaWanna; daughters Debra (Dan) Nelson of Camano Island, Jeannie (Tom) Kundig of Seattle, Whitney (Tony) Holland of Redmond; grandchildren Margo and Teague Nelson; sister Evangeline Moeller, brother Armand Ahrendt, both of Spokane.

Graveside services Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Visitation Friday, 3-8 p.m. and Saturday, 9-10:30 a.m. at Dryer Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
