US Congressman. He was a United States Representative from the State of New York. He was born the only child of George Miller (1747-1827), and his wife Temperance "Fanny" Chadwick Miller (1749-1830), in Wintonbury, Connecticut, now Bloomfield, Connecticut, on August 22, 1793. He was also known as William Starr Miller I. He was educated locally and completed preparatory studies. Following his education, he entered politics and was elected and served a term as a Member of the Board of Aldermen of New York City, New York, in 1845. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected to succeed the outgoing United States Representative Jonas Phillips Phoenix (1788-1859), on March 4, 1845. A Member of the American Party, he then served New York's 3rd District (Thirty-Ninth Congress), in the United States House of Representatives from March 4, 1845, to March 3, 1847. He was an unsuccessful Candidate for reelection to the Thirtieth Congress in 1846. In total, he was elected in 1844 and lost reelection in 1846. Following his term in the United States Congress, was succeeded in office by the incoming United States Representative Henry Nicoll (1812-1880), on March 4, 1847. After leaving the United States Congress, he retired from politics and lived in New York City, New York. He passed away in New York City, New York, on November 9, 1854, at the age of 61. Following his death, his funeral services were held at his residence at 39 Fifth Avenue in New York City, New York, and he was buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. He was married to Mary Regina Morton Miller (1806-1880), in New York City, New York, on July 22, 1841. The couple had no children together. His wife Mary survived him passing away in Rhinebeck, New York, on March 7, 1880, two weeks before her 74th birthday, and she is also buried in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. His nephew William Starr Miller II (1856-1935), was a successful real estate developer and industrialist in New York City, New York.
