Varied Life Ended for Frederick Allen

Dies at Age of 90 in Methodist Hospital- Rites tomorrow

After a varied life of 90 years, death came to Frederick Ellsworth Allen at 6:25 last night at Methodist Hospital.

Services will be held at 1 tomorrow afternoon at National Funeral Home followed by burial in Stephenson Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Allen was born near Clinton, Ind. He was bound out as a child to a farmer, later learned electrical work and became a telegrapher. He also became a court stenographer in Indiana. Later he moved to New York City and, as an electrician, helped install the first electric lights in the Statue of Liberty there.

Moving to St. Louis, Mr. Allen became secretary of the LaClede Gas Co., and later operated the Union Service Co, a transfer firm there. Near St. Louis he acquired a farm and enjoyed it as a hobby. Retiring in 1925 he came to Memphis in 1931 and lived with his grandchildren, Mrs. Harry E. Cobb of Old Horn Lake Road and F. A. Weaver of Weaver Road.

He also leaves a niece, Mrs. Florence Weigel of Addieville, Ill.; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of Memphis
