SHELBY — Mrs. Janie Gertrude “Trudy” Roberts Allen, 92, of Charles Road, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at the Brian Center in Lincolnton.

A native of Lancaster, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Nancy Elizabeth Wilson Roberts and Thomas Wheeler Roberts. Trudy loved music and books and played the piano frequently for the youth groups at her church, Second Baptist. She spent many years as a teacher and youth leader at the church and as head of various church organizations. She was employed with J.C. Penney for many years. She loved to travel and visited Japan, Europe and the Middle East. She especially loved to travel with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Claude Evans Allen; their eldest daughter, Marjorie Ann Allen Vaughn; grandson, Kenneth Vaughn Jr.; and all of her siblings, Killian, Paul, Donald, Edwin and Wilson Roberts and Grace Ferree, Oveta Gantt, Irene Dover and Dorothy Clark.

She is survived by two daughters, Sondra Allen Shanker and husband, Mark, of Potomac, Md., and Betty Allen of Lincolnton; five grandchildren, Kimberly Vaughn Huguelet and husband, Bill, of France, Beth Mauney Ludwig and husband, Mark, of Lincolnton, Jane Mauney True and husband, Dennis, of South Mills, Elisabeth Shanker Weirshousky and husband, David, of Bethesda, Md., and Jason Shanker and wife, Jenny, of Arlington, Va.; two great-grandsons, Evan and Holt Ludwig of Lincolnton, and two great-granddaughters, Schuyler Weirshousky of Bethesda, and Eliana Shanker of Arlington; two sisters-in-law, Pat Roberts and Irene Allen Fortenberry and husband, Bill; one brother-in-law, Eugene F. Allen and wife, Loretta, all of Shelby; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family received friends Wednesday night at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Funeral: Today at 1 p.m., Second Baptist Church; body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service
