According to the 1900 Census, Louis Funston was born February 1830 in Michigan.
He was living with his son Charles in Rock Grove, Floyd co., Iowa.Louis served in Company G 51st Missouri Infantry during the Civil War.

General Funston's Cousin Dies.
NORA SPRINGS, Ia. March 20 - Special: L. R. Funston, the oldest civil war veteran living in this place, and a cousin of General Funston, the former Philippine commander, died here yesterday aged 70 years. He is well known in this part of Iowa, and for the past few years spent much of his time in the soldiers' home at Marshalltown.
