Another pioneer gone. Minor Kirpatrick, one of our oldest citizens, is the last one of a large number of pioneers of Wesapello Co Iowa to pass away during the present years.
He died at his home 1 1/2 miles north of town, age 78.
His funeral was held at the home and burial made in McCormick cemetery Highland Center.
He was born in Londown Co VA Sept 16 1816
He married Hannah Godfrey and resided for a time in Madison Co Ohio. They left there and settled in Highland township on a farm, where they lived a number of years, becoming quite well to do.
A few years ago he sold his farm and moved to a suburb to retire. He had been ailing the past year or two. He had three sons and one daughter, who survive him.
The are Sant of St. Louis a US government employee of Internal revenue secret service, Dr. Thomas of Westphalia, KS, Wade of Hedrick Iowa and Mrs J.C. Lentner also of Hedrick
His grandfather Hugh Kirkpatrick, was one of seven brothers all patriots of the Continental army, and engaged in the struggle for American Independence. His father Thomas, was a soldier in the war of 1812. Sons Sant and Wade served in the Civil War.
At the age of 15 Minor came to Ohio with his parents and in 1849 wea the original purchaser of a tract of land in the northern part of Wapello Co.
