US Congressman. Born in Sands Point, New York, he was a merchant who served as a Captain in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. After the war, he was a member of the New York State Senate (1792-99) and President John Adams appointed him Collector of Customs at the Port of New York, serving (1797-1801). In 1803, he was elected as a Federalist to the Eighth Congress, serving until 1805. Not a candidate for renomination, he was president of the board of trustees for Brooklyn, New York. In 1825, he was elected as a Adams candidate to the Nineteenth Congress and served until 1827. After his term, he engaged in mercantile pursuits until his death at age 77 in Brooklyn, New York.
