Jackson Decker enlisted with the 113th IL Vol. Infantry on 13 Aug 1862 and mustered in with Co. I on 01 Oct 1862. He was discharged on 07 Mar 1863 on disability; but recovering his health, he returned to Co. I on 09 Dec 1863. He was captured at the Battle of Brice's Crossroads (AKA Guntown) and held at Andersonville, until exchanged on 05 Apr 1865. He returned to his unit and was transferred with 36 others from Co. I to Co. B, 120th IL Vol. Infantry. He mustered out of service on 22 Jun 1865, almost three months ahead of the other transferees, probably because of his poor health. He returned to Iroquois County where he later married Adeline Stanton.
