KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii– Haskell Othell Hewitt, 80, died June 28, 2009 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

He was born Feb. 14, 1929, in Cedarvale, Texas. A career military officer, he earned his GED after enlisting in the army as a private in 1948, graduating from officer candidate school in 1955, and Command and General Staff College in 1964. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1972. He received Bronze Star Medals for service during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.
He married Lillian Ochiyo Koki in 1956.
Survivors include his sons, Neil and John; two grandchildren; brother, Robert; and sister, Luetta.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. July 10, at Punchbowl Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii. A celebration of life service will follow at 5 p.m. at Koolau Ballrooms.
