After the death of David’s first wife sometime after 1835 James “Jim” Spivey B 1809 and David Robinson B 1795/1800 brought their families by covered wagon from Buncombe County, NC along the Wilderness Trail through Cumberland Gap to Big Wild Dog Creek in Clay (now Jackson County) KY. Two of David's brothers, William and John Robinson also traveled along with David and James Spivey.

Marriage 1: He Married Mary Johnston (Johnson) 29 Mar 1826 in Clay County. She was born 1811 NC and died about 1844 in Clay County KY. Together they had 8 children.

Marriage 2: James Spivey married Mary “Polly” Bowles in 1853 Clay County KY. She was Born: Abt 1815 in Kentucky Died: After 1880. Together they had 3 children.
