Funeral services for Lesley Ann Abel of Duck Hill are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, at First Baptist Church in Winona, with burial following in Duck Hill Cemetery in Duck Hill. Rev. T. R. Darsey, Rev. John L. Walker, and Dr. Phillip Dancy will officiate the services. Visitation will be Thursday, July 9, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home.
Ms. Abel died of cancer at Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. She was 43 years old.
Ms. Abel was an employee of Wal-Mart in Winona and a member of First Baptist Church in Winona. She was a 1984 graduate of Winona High School and attended Wood Jr. College. She was a member of the Hillfire Theater Group in Winona and an avid Ole Miss fan. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pamela Q. Abel, and her sister, Catherine Abel Baker.
Survivors include her father, Marvin G. Abel, Jr., of Duck Hill; sister, Jeffrey Ellington of Cleveland; niece, Devan Ellington; and nephew, Eric Todd Leslie.
Pallbearers will be Barney Morgan, Ken Rosamond, Will Burt, Mark Taylor, Jack Sykes, Brad Mills, Bruce Abel Patridge, and Charlie Funches. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Wal-Mart in Winona and the cast of Hillfire.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Montgomery County Relay for Life.
