Greenwood, Eula Pauline (Polly)
Beloved Eula Pauline (Polly) Greenwood died peacefully of natural causes on July, 6, 2009, in Sun City, Arizona. Born in Russellville, Arkansas on March 14, 1918, into the David Rufus Wood and Lottie Jean Berry family of ten siblings, she was the second child. The Wood family lived in Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona as David Rufus Wood worked for a railroad company, sold Watkins home products, farmed and owned grocery stores. In 1936, Polly started to California and stopped in Peoria, Arizona, to work. In 1938, she married John Undiano, an Arizona farm labor contractor, and had her only child, John L. Undiano in 1939. The family lived in Tolleson, Arizona. During World War II, Polly worked at the Goodyear Naval Facility hand sewing blimp airships. In 1949, she married Ira George Greenwood, a native of Winterset, Iowa, and a decorated WWII B24 bomber combat veteran. The family lived at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska, from 1950 to 1953, Davis Monthan AFB, Arizona, in 1954, Holloman AFB, New Mexico, in 1955, and returned to stay in Arizona in 1956. They purchased an 80 acre farm in Liberty, Arizona, and Polly loved the country life. Young Polly was a beautiful woman with auburn/black hair and she attracted attention wherever she went. She had exceptional daily life wisdom sharpened by difficulties and travel during her childhood. She was a no nonsense teacher, a devoted and loving mother, who guided and inspired her son to a Christian life and to go on to academic and professional achievement. She is survived by five of her siblings, her husband and her son. She has three grandchildren, Mark, Robb and Marisa Undiano Cain and fourteen Great Grandchildren. Funeral service will be at Best Funeral Services, 9380 W. Peoria Avenue, Thursday, July 9th from 6:00PM to 7:00PM. Visitation will be from 7:00PM to 8:30PM . Flowers can be sent to this location. Polly will be buried in the Arizona National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, on Friday July 10, 2009. Grave Site services at 9:00AM.
