From an unnamed and undated article located in the Lamar County Genealogical Society Library, in the Taylor Collection, Box M: 'Mrs. Clarence Mullens, 78, of Rt. 1, Powderly, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 1973, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Simpson and the Rev. John Curry officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery. Berta Nance Mullens was born in Lamar County May 12, 1894, daughter of Henry and Ida Funston Nance. She attended schools in Paris and married Clarence Mullens on Feb. 6, 1916 in Powderly, his death occurring July 4, 1970. They had lived in Powderly all their married life. She was a member of the Methodist Church at Powderly, and taught Sunday school there for a number of years. She was active in the church choir and other church organizations. She was one of the organizers of the Women's Home Demonstration Club in Powderly. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Melba Leavey of Dallas; a son, Bob Mullens of Powderly; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. O.N. Stone of Dallas and Mrs. Weldon Allen of Fort Worth; her stepmother, Mrs. Ora Logan of Paris and several nieces and nephews.' *Buried next to Charlotte Roberta Mullens Johnson.
