US Congressman. He moved to Kentucky from Virginia in 1810 with his parents, who settled near Lexington. After studying at Transylvania University in Lexington, he settled near Hawesville, where he engaged in agricultural pursuits. Elected as a Jacksonian Democrat to Congress in 1830, he served three terms, from 1831 to 1837. He returned to Kentucky, settling near Yelvington, where he continued his agriculatural pursuits until his death at 44 in 1849. His brother, Richard Hawes, was also a Congressman from Kentucky.
