Pfc Bregg was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. He died of injuries suffered from a non-combat related incident. Lucas attended Wright City High School in Wright City, Missouri and graduated in 2008. After graduation, he worked as a roofer while trying to decide what to do with his life and decided he wanted to join the Army. He was rejected because of poor eyesight but he was not one to take "no" lightly, so after a few days he decided he was going to make the Army take him – they did, so on July 16, 2008, he signed up for six years. Lucas was proud of his service to this country and very committed to the men he fought with. Lucas was a great kid who was interested in anything related to cars. He was also kind hearted and was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Michael Bregg last heard from his son the day before he died. Lucas sent a text message wishing his dad a happy wedding anniversary and said he couldn't wait to get back into town in two weeks to celebrate the anniversary, Father's Day and Lucas' upcoming marriage to Courtney Broyles. His awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Weapons Qualification Badge (Expert) and Overseas Service Bar. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and Army Good Conduct Medal posthumously.
