Mr. Gantt was born November 18, 1917, in Klondyke, Texas, and raised in Bonham, Texas. He was the youngest of 10 children born to Dolphus and Mary Ellen Gantt. Rayford was a veteran of World War II who moved to Longview over 50 years ago,- first as manager of Manley's Tire Sore, later as salesman for McWilliams Furniture, and ending his career as co-owner of Mosley-Gantt Magnavox TV and Appliance Store.
Rayford married Oleta Stewart on her 20th birthday, June 26, 1938, and together they celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Rayford was a long-time member of the Mobberly Avenue Baptist Church
