Mrs Austin Stone of Madison County while walking down stairs with a child in her
arms and lamp in hand stumbled and fell. He clothing caught fire and before
help could reach her she was burned so badly the she died in a few hours. [The
Spout Spring times: January 18, 1900]

ANOTHER OBITUARY;

Mother Dead, Child Badly Burned

A lamp in one hand, a babe in her arms, a mother trips and falls down stairs.
The imagination can better portray the horrible result of such a proposition.
Last Thursday Mrs. Austin Stone, with her five year old daughter in her arms,
was descending the steps with a lighted lamp, when her foot slipped and she fell
headlong to the bottom of the steps. The lamp exploded and the oil scattered
over her person, and instantly she was enveloped in a sheet of flame. The child
escaped with burns about the hands and head and may recover, but the poor young
mother, recently bereft of her husband, perished from the flames. Deceased was
a sister of Mr. Theo Goodlet and was about thirty years of age.

[Richmond climax (Richmond, Ky. : 1897): n. Wednesday, January 17, 1900]
