Arthur Cleamon Byers was born on September 10, 1877, near Walnut Grove, Greene County, Missouri, the son of Samuel F. and Phoebe Ann (nee Knowles) Byers. He grew to manhood in the Walnut Grove area and spent his entire life in Greene and Dade Counties as a farmer and merchant. At the time of his death, he still owned the farm where he was born.

On October 6, 1912, Arthur was united in marriage in Greene County to Alice Claypool. To this marriage were born daughters Nellie Irene and Marjorie Ann and a son George Samuel.

About 20 years before his death, Arthur owned a store in Walnut Grove for about three years. Later he acquired a store in Dadeville which he operated for six years. He purchased a general store in Pennsboro and had operated it for about nine years at the time of his death on February 10, 1946. He died at his home in the Pennsboro store in Dade County at the age of 68 years and five months.

His funeral service was held on February 12 at the Pennsboro Church with Rev. Cecil Daniel of Springfield officiating. Burial was in the Pennsboro Cemetery.

Survivors included his wife Alice Byers of the home, son George S. Byers of Carthage, daughters Mrs. Francis Jones and Mrs. Fred Daigh of Pennsboro and four grandchildren.
