OBITUARY - Glasco Sun, Glasco, KS - 18 Dec. 1947, page 6
Mary Anna Balaun was born June 10, 1858, in Klatovy, Bohemia, which was ruled by Austria at that time. She passed away at 11:50 p.m., December 12, 1947, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Prochaska, in Glasco, KS.

When but a child eight years old, she came to the United States. She arrived in Canada, and then came to Pittsburgh, Allegheny, PA, with her parents and siblings. The family moved to Kansas in 1875 when she was seventeen years old. She was united in marriage to Frederick Boucek on August 21, 1878. To them were born seven children, three boys and four girls. Their son Frank died in infancy and Joseph died while still in his teens.

Mary's husband Fred and all three sons preceded her in death, her husband having passed away in midsummer of 1932 and their youngest son Charles in midsummer 1942. Those surviving are four daughters; Bertha Prochaska of Glasco, Anna Pugh of Wichita, Teresie Wolf of Simpson, and Mary Kosar of Delphos; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Barbara Smith. Since the death of her husband in 1932, Mrs. Boucek made her home at Ada, Kansas, until failing health made it necessary for her to make her home with her daughters, Mrs. Frank Prochaska of Glasco, and Mrs. Teresie Wolf of Simpson. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Glasco at 9:00 a.m., Monday, December 15, 1947, with Father Bevak officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Walter Wolf, Elmer Prochaska, Melvin Wesley, Darrel Insco, Lou Vinduski, and Clarence Marler. Flower bearers were Misses Shirley Insco, Darlene Wesley, Carl Ann Marler, and Mrs. Walter Wolf. Interment was in the family plot in the Bohemian National Cemetery, with Griffith Funeral Home of Glasco in charge.
