Dr. John Nathan Bauer was a physician in Allentown for nearly 60 years. Born in Topton, he was a son of the late Daniel and Marietta (Haas) Bauer.  Dr. Bauer was graduated from Kutztown State Teachers College and taught there one year.  He then entered Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, where his class was the first required to take the state board examination for physicians.  He was graduated from the medical school, May 15, 1896.  Dr. Bauer practiced in Allentown since he was 23.  He was a member of the State Medical Society, entering the group on July 20, 1896.  He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Allentown.  Survivors are two nephews, Dr. John T. Bauer, pathologist at a Philadelphia Hospital, and Wilbur Rauch, Allentown; a niece, Mrs. Margaret Breslin, Allentown, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Morris Bauer; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Rauch and Mrs. Clara Bortz, and by a nephew, Dr. John J. Bortz.
