Johan Franz Kettering is one of the signers of the Cumberland Compact, establishing the government of Nashtown (now Nashville) Tennessee.
Philip moved from Sumner County, Tennessee, to Lebanon, Pa, where he married his wife Veronica (Franny) Stauffer. In the 1830s, he moved to Ohio with his children.
An entry in a document titled "Wayne County, Ohio Burial Records" compiled by the Genealogical Section of the Wayne County Historical Society reads as follows:
"SUGAR CREEK TOWNSHIP CEMETERY -
...As it is very old, most of the tombstones are very hard to read. An old list of burials had three names on which I have designated with an *, as none of these stones are in the cemetery at this time"
