Martha (went by Mattie) Rothrock was the youngest of eight known children of William Pettit Rothrock (1820–1903) and Jane Quigley Stewart (1822–1895), who married 24 Jun 1843 at Centre County, Pennsylvania. After Jane died, William remarried to the widow Elizabeth Updegraff Field Little (1818-1910) on 07 Mar 1896 at Bordentown, Burlington County, New Jersey, but had no additional children.
Mattie first married to William Cowan McDonald (1849-1893) on 14 Aug 1874 at Beech Creek, Clinton County, Pennsylvania. Mattie and William were the parents of three children, the first born in Pennsylvania and the last two in Kansas. The children were namely:
1. Tacie Emma McDonald Easterday (1876-1941)
2. Benjamin Perry McDonald (1878-1932)
3. Leland Justin McDonald (1881-1957)
After WIlliam McDonald died, Mattie secondly married William H. Clark (1857-1932) on 19 Dec 1896 at Blackwell, Kay County Oklahoma. Mattie and William Clark were the parents of one child, that died at one month of age, namely:
4. Adaleen McDonald (1898-1899)
In 1880 William and Mattie Clark, and their first two children were living at Ninnescah Township, Cowley County, Tacy was born in Pennsylvania and Benjamin in Kansas. In 1900 Mattie, William McDonald, a son Charles SampleClark (born 15 Dec 1891 at Kansas to a previous marriage of William Clark?), and a boarder were living at Lowe Township, Kay County, Oklahoma next door to Mattie's daughter Tacie and her family. Mattie said she had been married 15 years (sic) and was the mother of four, three living.
