Berna Claire was born October 19, 1906 to Ada May and Harold Kaas, at Garner Township, Iowa. She was a lifetime resident of Council Bluffs and a member of the first graduating class of Thomas Jefferson High School in 1925. Berna's life centered around her business career and helping older sister Audrey care for their parents. They lived in the family home at 3328 Avenue D until it became a burden. She was an Administrative Assistant at Woodmen of The World, Omaha, Nebraska before retiring in 1971, after 44 years of service. Berna and her sister, each drove their own car to work. She passed away January 28, 2008, at Bethany Lutheran Home, reaching 101 years. The Kaas family were members of the Dodge Memorial Christian Church are buried at the Fairview Cemetery.
