She was born on January 17, 1923, in Boonville to Virgil "Butch" and Helen Kelley. Betty was a graduate of Lockyear Business College and worked at the Evansville Shipyards during World War II. In 1945 she married Glenn W. Vote. Betty worked for more than 45 years at Inman Insurance. She considered the Inmans part of her family and didn't retire until she was 77, stating that she had loved going to work every day of her life.
Betty loved entertaining in her home throughout the years, welcoming everyone and cooking wonderful meals. She played tennis into her 70s and was an avid sports fan, never missing the opportunity to watch Tiger Woods play golf and never, ever giving up on her beloved Chicago Cubs. Betty was a past chairwoman for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was a lifetime member of Hemenway Memorial Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Elk's Club in Boonville.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn W. Vote, in 1985; by her nephew, Lindsey Vote; her great-nephew, Jason Vote; and many dear friends.
Survivors include her sons, Kelly (Terry) Vote and John (Cinda) Vote; sister, Pat Limpus; brother, Dick (Rita) Kelley; grandchildren, Leslie Hanley, Libby (Keith) Scheessele, Erin (Dan) Diehl, Katie (Matt) Thomas, Nick (Amanda) Vote; and 8 great-grandchildren whom she adored. She is also survived by her grandchildren-at-heart, Jenny (Jeff) Kniese, Angie (Andy) Grayson, Emily (Nathan) Snipes and Layne Helming; her dear friend, Ellen Vote; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends that were so special in her life.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Koehler Funeral Home in Boonville. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wes Attebury Foundation for Melanoma Patients, c/o Integra Bank, 130 N. St. Joseph Ave., Evansville, Indiana 47712, in honor of Betty's granddaughter who is a Melanoma fighter and survivor.
