Sylvester Giering, a long-time resident of Emaus, and postmaster of the place during Grant's administration, died on Sunday last, after a long suffering with dropsy, at the age of 70. He was a clock and watchmaker by trade, and carried on that business for many years. He was a grandson of Andrew Giering, who was one of Emaus' first settlers, having come to the place in 1742. Mr. Giering is survived by his wife and two children, Isaac and Annie.
