U.S. Congressman. He was engaged in railroad construction in New Jersey, moved to Maine in 1846, and was one of the contractors in constructing the Atlantic & St. Lawrence Railroad. Entering politics, he served as a member of the Maine State House of Representatives (1852-53) and was owner-publisher of the Portland Daily Advertiser (1853-57). In 1855, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fourth and Thirty-fifth Congresses, serving until 1859. After leaving Congress, he was a contractor for the Air Line Railroad Company and died while visiting Boston, Massachusetts.
