Alice Mae Keeney, lovingly known as Miss Alice to many, went to be with the Lord on March 7, 2016. She was 92 yrs. old.

Alice was born June 1, 1923 in Boone, Iowa, the eldest daughter of Allen W. Haleen and Bessie (Smith). She was raised in Boone with her two sisters and two brothers. She attended Boone High School and during her time there was a member of The Boone Scotties, an All-Girls Drum and Bugle Corps, she played the bass drum. She graduated from Boone High in 1941.

On May 9, 1943, she married Kirk Keeney. Together they had two children, a son, Edwin Allen and daughter, Marcia Kae (who passed away three days after her birth). Kirk served 26 years in the US Army, and during that time they enjoyed assignments in Germany, France and numerous ones stateside. They retired in Austin, Texas and were married for 53 years before Kirk passed in 2000.

Both Alice and her husband were Life Members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 83, in Austin. Alice served as Chaplain during various years. Alice loved her country and her military and through the years she enjoyed clipping coupons for military families overseas and supported young wives of servicemen who were overseas. Through the years, Alice enjoyed playing Bingo, bowling, square dancing and playing Yahtzee with her husband.

In 2011, due to health issues, Alice moved to live in West Richland, WA. She lived with her grand-daughter, Marsha, who was not only her full-time caregiver, but also her best friend. Together, the two enjoyed many laughs and fun times together and through Marsha sharing their stories, photos and videos with friends and family on Facebook, Alice had quite the fan following.

Alice was a special woman with a vibrant sense of humour, who loved to flirt and be silly. She made everyone she met smile and many said she felt like she was their grandma. She lived the life of Jesus by helping and serving others and will be remembered as a caring and amazing woman.

Alice is survived by her son, Edwin Allen and his wife, Laura and her grandchildren, Marsha Kay and Kirk Allen, all of West Richland; sister Roseanna Morrison, Marshalltown, IA and brother Jim Haleen, Ames, IA and several nieces and nephews.

In passing, Alice joins her parents Allen William and Bessie (Smith), her baby daughter Marcia Kae, her brothers William, Johnny and sisters Betty Lou and Emma Lavida Haleen.
