Helen Marie Friend, the daughter of Harley Albert Friend (1899 to 1937) and Henrietta Gertrude Murray (1902 to 1952) was born on the 26th of August 1921 in Delphos, Allen, Ohio. She had one older sister and two younger brothers.

After her father's disappearance, her mother found it necessary to put her children in an orphanage in 1926. During her stay in the orphanage, Helen contracted polio. Later, when her mother remarried in 1936, she removed Helen and her two oldest siblings from the orphanage and soon thereafter moved to California. Helen's youngest brother, Bernard Joseph Friend, was adopted by the Brady family. Her father had remarried in 1928 and had two additional children.

Helen graduated from John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles, California. Before she was married, she worked as a receptionist for the Fullerton Family Practice Medical Group. Helen married Cyrus Edgar Adams, Jr. on the 14th of December 1940 at the First Baptist Church in North Hollywood, California. They became the parents of three children, David, Paul, and Lynette.

The family settled in Anaheim, California where they raised their children, but after Edgar's retirement, relocated to Nevada. While in Nevada, they became involved with the Carson City Baptist Church. They also enjoyed riding their motorcycles.

Helen was a beautiful, tenderhearted and kind mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a gracious hostess during family functions and always gave the most perfect gifts, some of which she created herself.

In her later years, Helen suffered from the after-effects of the polio she had contracted as a child. Helen passed away on the 18th of August 2001 in Carson City, Nevada at the age of seventy-nine. She is survived by her youngest son and daughter. Her husband, Edgar, died in 1995 and her oldest son, David, died in 1997.
