Kershaw - Funeral services for Beckham Hilton Clyburn, 75, former state senator from Lancaster County, were to be held today at 2 pm from the home. Interment will be in Kershaw City Cemetery.
Mr. Clyburn died Monday at his home near Kershaw after a long illness.
Mr. Clyburn, a life long resident of Lancaster County, was born near Kershaw in the Haile Gold Mine Community and was the son of the late William Uriah and Queen Alice Hilton Clyburn.
He attended the Kershaw schools and was graduated from the Lancaster High School. He attended the University of South Carolina and the University of North Carolina.
Until his retirement a few years ago, Mr. Clyburn operated one of the county's largest farms.
In 1929 he was elected to the South Carolina Senate, a post he held for five years. He was a member of Kershaw First baptist church, a Mason and a Shriner, in addition to serving as a member of the boards of trustees of Flat Creek Schools for many years.
He married Mary Gaston Jenkins of the Haile Gold Mine Community, who died in 1938. From this union survives a daughter, Mrs T.J. Gregory, with whom he made his home. also surviving are his widow, Mrs. Edna Harris Clyburn a daughter from this marriage, Miss Melody Ann Clyburn.
Other survivors include five sisters, Mrs. John C Jenkins and Mrs. John Truesdale of Kershaw, Mrs. W.T. Redfearn of Camden, and Mrs. Tom Mangum and Miss Helen Clyburn of Lancaster; two brothers, James T. Clyburn of Lancaster and four grandchildren.
