"The Peirano vault now in course of construction at the Altaville Protestant Cemetery is nearing completion. The walls are of white lava, the roof of marble. There are 12 compartments in the vault…each large enough for a casket. The vault is being erected by Joseph A. Peirano for the reception of the remains of his daughter Hazel and his parents and other relatives now buried in the family plot. This is the first vault ever built in a cemetery in Calaveras Co. The cost will exceed $1000."
